Sarah Curtis nasce nella contea dello Yorkshire occidentale nel maggio 1676.

Pittrice allieva di Mary Beale, si specializza nel genere del ritratto.

Nel 1701 sposa Curtis Benjamin Hoadly (Hoadley), pittore amatoriale, poi vescovo di Wincheser.

È attiva a Londra come ritrattista.

Muore a Londra l’11 gennaio 1743.

A Londra, alla National Portrait Gallery, si conserva il Ritratto del marito Benjamin Hoadly (l’attribuzione di J. Tayleure, già proprietario del dipinto, cfr. lettera del 1858, è accettata).

Il Ritratto del teologo e matematico William Whiston (Londra, National Portrait Gallery) è invece una copia (1720 ca.).

La National Portrait Gallery di Londra conserva diverse incisioni tratte dai suoi ritratti.

Esegue il Ritratto dello storico Gilbert Burnet, vescovo di Salisbury (morto nel 1715).

Nell’opera incisoria di G. Vertue sono diverse riproduzioni di suoi dipinti.

Secondo Williamson sarebbe anche autrice di ritratti in miniatura.
